Believe you are a star in the making? Or perhaps you think you have no artistic talent whatsoever?

Dance-psychologist Dr Peter Lovatt hosts a light-hearted evening of presentations and experiments that will challenge some of your self-beliefs. Accessible instruments, musical games and an investigation into the psychology of the groove come together in an evening that might just unleash your inner genius.

Peter Lovatt – Psychology of the groove

Dr Peter Lovatt, aka Dr Dance, presents a special investigation into the ‘Psychology of the groove’. Some tunes undoubtedly make you feel groovier than others but psychologists are only just beginning to understand why. Enjoy some of the most foot-tapping music around as Dr Dance demonstrates how your natural urge to groove can be unleashed by the right tune, even if you think you’ve got two left feet.

Benjamin Schogler – Skoog

Want to unlock your rock-star potential? Join Benjamin Schogler, co-inventor of the fabulous ‘Skoog’. Designed for children with disabilities and described as ‘the musical equivalent of an accessibility ramp’, this endearing new electronic musical instrument can make a rock star out of anyone – you included!

Yann Seznec – Styharp

Yann Seznec is a sound artist and creative technologist whose previous works include musical collaborations with fungi and the creation of a new semi-intelligent electronic species – the Gelkie. Yann’s recent collaboration with Matthew Herbert has seen him developing the Styharp, a synthesiser inspired by the life of a pig. Try out this new musical instrument and allow Yann to introduce you to the future of music.

Tom Hardiment and Andrew Kieran – Knitted Synthesiser

As you pull, twist, squeeze and stroke this novel machine some strange sounds will emerge. With a bit of practise you’ll find yourself creating sonic landscapes as you explore the extents of this proto-instrument.
